Sit tight! This is one of my very favorite recipes. It's a boosted wellness honey - bright rosy pink, vitamin C packed, and bursting with flavor. This honey tastes like a thousand Sweet Tart candies were crushed up and dissolved into it. It's tangy, sweet and sour, and ups your honey game immediately.
I tend to make a big container of this Vitamin C Honey a few times a year with whatever powdery Vitamin C ingredient magic I have on hand. This batch has rose hips and hibiscus, and some echinacea. It's an electuary of sorts.
Little jars of it make the best gifts. Or a little spoonful after a meal to satisfy a sweet tooth. If you love PB&J sandwiches. Make one with this honey in place of the jelly.
I'll note this in the recipe down below, but use my recipe as a jumping off point. Play around! If you can't find one of the ingredients I call for, no big deal. Leave it out, or add another spice or powder you like! Pitaya powder is tricky to source (and pricey), you can totally leave it out, and maybe crush up some freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries instead!

I buy nearly all of the ingredients here in bulk at my local natural foods co-op. They're also readily available online. If you can't find one of the ingredients I call for, no big deal. Leave it out, or add another spice or powder you like! Pitaya powder is tricky to source (and can be pricey!), you can totally leave it out, and maybe crush up some freeze-dried strawberries instead. You might use ginger in place of the cayenne. This is a favorite version, and the ratio I tend to like, but use it as a jumping off point! *The acerola cherry powder really brings the tang here, you might also experiment with camu camu powder - also super tangy, also vitamin C rich (start with a lot less, and add to taste). Have fun!
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
- 1 tablespoon pitaya (dragonfruit) powder
- 2 teaspoons hibiscus powder
- 2 teaspoons acerola cherry powder (natural vitamin C powder)*
- 2 teaspoons rose hip powder
- 3 cups of runny, raw, mild honey

Combine the cayenne, pitaya, hibiscus, acerola cherry powder, and rose hip powder in a small bowl. Add the powders to the honey and stir, stir, stir. Stir until the honey becomes uniform in color. Place in a dark spot, and leave overnight. Stir again the next morning, taste, and adjust with more cayenne, vitamin c powder, hibiscus power, or pitaya. Store in a dark place. Enjoy!
Makes 3 cups of honey.

Packed in small jars, I think this honey would make beautiful holiday gifts for my colleagues. Do you have suggestions how far ahead of time it can be prepared?
I really loved the idea of this honey but I am based in the UK and had to buy many of the ingredients on line – the Hibiscus powder has just arrived (from India!) and whilst it says it is 100% organic, it is also packaged as a hair strengthening treatment complete with one use gloves and a head band – presumably to stop the drips going into your eyes – my question is – do you think hair treatment grade is the same as food grade hibiscus powder and it says use by Feb/March 2018 so I’m not 100% sure that I should use it.
BTW – I made it twice already without Hibiscus powder and the whole family loves it .. I gave the first pot away because someone raved about it so much! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Jude – I think I’d err on the side of caution here, and try to seek out another source of hibiscus (also called jamaica) powder. Glad the non-hibiscus version was a hit :)!
Gorgeous colors! I would love to see a photo of the honey with the powders actually mixed in.
Lately I have been depithing and drying my orange peels. Can’t wait for the Blood Oranges to arrive in the shops. I think they will be an awesome replacement for the vitamin C powder.

Great recipe! I plan to try this. I’ve been using 100% organic Camu Camu powder in my smoothies and I think it will be great in this honey. It’s from swansonvitamins.com and it’s in a 2 oz bag, non GMO. I don’t recall the price but was very affordable. Super high in vitamin C.
